The third-floor laboratories of the Bayou Building were fully redesigned and upgraded to meet current laboratory safety standards for spaces handling chemicals, while also supporting the evolving academic needs of today’s UHCL students. The project modernized outdated lab environments, improving functionality, safety, and flexibility for teaching and research.

In addition to the laboratory renovations, the project addressed significant deferred maintenance within the approximately 50-year-old facility. Upgrades included the replacement of more than 350 HVAC zone boxes throughout all three floors of the building, improvements to the cooling towers, and targeted upgrades to portions of the laboratory plumbing systems. These enhancements extended the life of the building’s infrastructure, improved system reliability, and ensured a safe, efficient environment for students and faculty.
