The University of Houston–Downtown (UHD) is undertaking a major campus improvement project to support both current operations and future growth. The project includes the construction of a new 34,000-square-foot Welcome Center located above the third floor of the Girard Street Building, along with approximately 100,000 square feet of renovations within the One Main Building. These improvements are designed to enhance campus functionality, improve intradepartmental adjacencies, and increase overall organizational efficiency.
Our team provided comprehensive MEP engineering services for the renovation scope within One Main, supporting a wide range of academic, administrative, and student-focused spaces. The project included upgrades to the campus library, the addition of new physics and geological laboratory spaces, reconfigured administrative offices, and the creation of new student study areas. All IT spaces were evaluated and updated to provide appropriate cooling in accordance with UH standards. In addition, we investigated an existing stairwell for code compliance and developed a design solution to meet current life-safety requirements. Due to existing deficiencies, a new building-wide grounding system was also designed and implemented to bring the facility into full code compliance.
